[HowTo-Hacks Exercises] 1 PETROPHYSICAL GROUPS, PETROPHYSICAL LOGS AND PC ANALYSIS

PETROPHYSICAL GROUPS, PETROPHYSICAL LOGS AND PC ANALYSIS

In this tutorial, we introduce a non exhaustive list of the options available in Techcore module. The work flow that will be presented here is as follow:
- Create a new project and import all data needed (numeric and alpha numeric data, zonation, pictures, aso)
- Check the validity and coherency of the data
- Creation of petrophysical log by interval of representativity and by kriging
- Determine petrophysical groups using as many parameters as you want but at least Phi, K and Pc vs Sw data. Hyperbolic tangent parameters can be used also.
- Define saturation functions for each PG, using different methods: try hyperbolic tangents, Buckley-Leverett, and if these methods are not satisfying, try WWJ
- When satisfied with your saturation model, propagate PG classification to first core data, then to the entire zone of interest using correlation with another classification or log responses

[HowTo-Hacks Tutorials] 6 K.mod modelling/repair of core and/or log data.

K.mod modelling/repair of core and/or log data

The main objective when using K.mod is to create a network model to predict the values of a desired formation property (e.g. permeability), or the values of a desired logging curve, from a combination of input log data. In the first case, the objective would be to predict the formation property outside cored intervals whilst in the second case the objective would be to create modeled curve data to infill a target curve over just those intervals in which the target data were affected by e.g. bad hole conditions.
K.mod is a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) type of neural network. It operates on the principle of back-propagation of errors to modify the choice of nodal weight factors for each node in a chosen layered design.

[HowTo-Hacks Tutorials] 4 Saturation modelling in HowTo-Hacks.

Saturation modelling involves creating relations (or tables) that express saturation as a function of Capillary Pressure or height, and possible other reservoir properties. This relation is then used to calculate saturations in Static and dynamic reservoir models. Creation of Saturation Models is an integral part of the Petrophysical workflow and an efficient workflow in HowTo-Hacks is required to avoid time-consuming Excel solutions. This document describes a set of agreed functional requirements.

Schlumberger HowTo-Hacks Software Review

this page is NOT an official schlumberger page
Screenshot of Schlumberger HowTo-Hacks running on Windows 7 (wikimedia.com)
HowTo-Hacks is a Schlumberger owned Windows based software platform intended to aggregate all the wellbore information. It allows the user to interpret any log and core data. It addresses the need for a single platform able to support all the wellbore data and interpretation integration workflows, reducing the need for a multitude of highly specialized tools. By bringing the whole workflow into a single platform risk and uncertainty can be assessed throughout the life of the wellbore.

History of HowTo-Hacks
HowTo-Hacks software was developed in Montpellier (South of France) by a company called Techsia. Techsia were formed in 2000. The first version of HowTo-Hacks was commercially available in 2002. HowTo-Hacks was developed to have a familiar modern interface providing easy visualization and interaction of all the data, with a pre-arranged workflow that enabled less experienced users to follow, Techsia made the multi-well interpretation more accessible to all technical experts. In 2009, Schlumberger acquired Techsia and the HowTo-Hacks platform and they currently support and market HowTo-Hacks. HowTo-Hacks offers new functionality in each new release, not only in petrophysical and geological interpretation but also geomechanics interpretation, uncertainty and links to the industry standard platform like Petrel. HowTo-Hacks also has the new acoustics module which will add much more functionality into the application.

Versions

HowTo-Hacks 2010.2

The HowTo-Hacks 2010.2 released November 2010 added GeoFrame ELAN processing algorithms inside Quanti.min and the module was renamed to Quanti.Elan.

HowTo-Hacks 2011.1

The HowTo-Hacks 2011.1 released May 2011 and added a new Pore Pressure module.

Learn How To Type Faster on a Keyboard

Learn How To Type Faster on a Keyboard
Most of us use two fingers of each hand to type on a keyboard, in this tutorial you will learn how to type faster on a keyboard. You will memories every key on the keyboard, you will type faster while looking at the screen by using the correct fingers, and gain speed.
Typing faster can enable you to keep up with your brain; that little voice in your head that has great ideas might only last for a few seconds before its forgotten.

Use All your fingers while typing:

Most people have the bad habit of typing with two fingers only, while they can use 10. If you take a closer look at your keyboard, youll notice raised bumps on each of the F key and J key. This is to help you find the correct finger placement without having to look at the keyboard.
Place your fingertips on your keyboard, as in the picture. This is the basic position for touch typing. You can find this position without even looking at the keyboard (feel the bumps). You can be fast without this position but you will not exceed 30 words/min, while with your 10 fingers, you can reach the speed of 180 words/min and more.
Learn How To Type Faster on a Keyboard

Learn to type faster without looking at the keyboard:

After you get the right position, familiarize yourself with the keyboard, many websites can help you for this step, websites as Keybr.comTouch Typing Study, or many others I personally used sense-lang.org. As a beginner, this website will help you to memories every letter on the keyboard. When you get to lesson 16, you will be typing words and sentences that have meaning. Typing sentences that have meaning is very important for you to be successful !
By practicing 30-60 minutes a day, after one week, you should be able to type 40 words per minute without looking to the keyboard. And this is only the beginning.

Camera Size: Compare the size of digital cameras

Thinking of buying a digital camera for your next vacation? Here is a online service that will help you easily view the different sizes of cameras. While many tools exist to compare technical characteristics, Camera Size lets you know the size of each camera.
camera size comparison openhow

Camera Size is a user-friendly web application that displays the exact dimensions of digital cameras to better compare. Operation is easy, just choose the two cameras that you want to compare from the drop-down list, and youll get the photo and the size of each camera.
sidebar camera size openhow

The menu on the left sidebar allows you to choose the orientation of the camera (on supported models). You can rotate the camera left, right, top, front or back.

At the right side you can see an image of a regular AA Battery, which gives you an option to visualize the size of the camera. If thats not enough, you can initialize a helper image of an average human male hand by clicking on the Show hand. You can drag this image around and position it under each camera and better visualize the size of the camera.

How to Test your vision online

Are you working daily on your computer and you want to test your eyesight?
ThinkQuest is an online tool to test your vision at home for free. This allows you to test your eyesight through a succession of letters becoming small. A bit like a doctor!
test vision Eyesight test online

To take this test the application will ask you to choose the size of your monitor (you must have either a 15, 17, or 19 monitor), and your screen resolution, to measure out the correct length that you should sit back at (the length will vary depending on your screen size and resolution).
Now read the row of letters on the screen and press next to display more rows in decreasing sizes. When you can no longer read more than half the words on a line, press stop and you will get the result.
Of course this self eye test is no substitute for visiting your doctor but if you follow the steps well, you may get some idea about how good (or bad) your vision is.

ZenMate: Chrome extension for Free VPN with easy location switching

In a previous post we've learned What is a VPN and How does it work ? VPN is a network technology that creates a secure network connection over a public network such as the Internet.
ZenMate is a free extension for Google Chrome that will allow you to get a free VPN. A service that lets you connect anonymously and access sites that are blocked or censored in your country! Unlike other Chrome extensions which are usually regular proxies without encryption - ZenMate will encrypt your browser traffic and build a secure tunnel around the data you send or receive. Your IP is hidden, your Internet unrestricted and your privacy protected.
ZenMate change ip location openhow

How to use ZenMate and Change your IP:

Once you have installed this extension, a shield icon appears on the top right of your browser and you will be redirected to a new page that will ask you to enter you email to activate ZenMate. Then you will have a message saying that they have sent you an eMail with your account credentials but youre already signed in and can surf the web protected right away!.
To access settings just click on the shield icon on the top right of your browser, to turn ON/OFF the service, (ON: the color of the shield turns green), you can even choose your location by clicking on Change location. ZenMate secure your connection and lets you access restricted content that only works in some countries such as Hulu.com or Pandora.com which only works in the USA, by changing the IP address location.

Download ZenMate for Google Chrome for free.

Note! The VPN is NOT a way to increase its anonymity for prohibited practices. A VPN does not make you completely anonymous and invisible !. Its a way to protect your Internet privacy.
